I studied Aviation System Technology and Management (ILST) at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen. In this program, students at the same time qualify to become a pilot. I completed my flight training with Lufthansa Flight Training in Bremen, Germany and in Phoenix, Arizona. Following which I applied to Lufthansa to attain my diploma thesis, after an interview I quickly received a confirmation from the “Aircraft Specification & Operational Projects” department.

For my diploma thesis topic “Pushback & Taxi Clearances via DataLink”, it was an advantage to be able to use the good aviation knowledge I had acquired, particularly my exposure to a variety of aircraft types. Because of the subject matter, I had to present my results to experts in several meetings. During the discussions I was able to gather competent opinions, specify my topic, while at the same time strengthening my presentation skills and further training my sound and convincing mannerisms.

My colleagues strongly supported my work. The staff in the diploma student support department helped me with all necessary formalities so that I could fully concentrate on my work. The co-workers in my department put me in touch with relevant contacts hereby helping me save valuable time and tedious searching. Aside from this, all necessary equipment such computer, telephone or appropriate expert documentation was made readily available to me. But the best of all was: I was fully integrated into the Lufthansa team right from the start and my opinion was in demand!

My diploma thesis enabled me to gather excellent insights into the daily routine and the Lufthansa world. Based on the manifold foreign contacts I was able to greatly improve both my language skills and my knowledge of other countries. Regular get-togethers with other diploma students and interns encouraged interesting exchanges from which one could gather further knowledge of other companies within the corporation. The guided tours for example through the Frankfurt airport or Lufthansa Technik were also very interesting.

My diploma thesis topic was great and because of my work in the department I was able to gain well-founded insights into Lufthansa’s daily operative routine. My diploma thesis was a total success. After my graduation, Lufthansa asked me to join the company – an opportunity which I accepted without hesitation! My diploma thesis with Lufthansa launched my successful career start and my smooth entry into a global corporation!
