I pursued this apprenticeship because I enjoy working with food. What I especially appreciate at LSG is the pleasant work environment. All of my colleagues are very nice and the company feels like a family to me, one where everyone knows everybody else. Learning about other cultures, foods, and dishes that I did not know about before is a lot of fun for me.
Sinem (17 years old) talks about her Hospitality Services Specialist apprenticeship
During the first year of my two-year apprenticeship I have two-week course blocks at the vocational school. In addition to the usual subjects, we have new subjects like vocational theory in which we learn various things about dishes and drinks.
I am learning about many different areas. At the moment I work in the receiving department, where I receive goods from suppliers, fill out delivery receipts, inspect the products in terms of weight and amount, and bring them directly to the kitchen or to refrigerated storage.
Beforehand, I was in the kitchen for cold food items and served up items such as salads and desserts as specified in the customer’s instructions. The shift supervisor gave everyone a task on the line and explained how to do it.
After my time in the receiving department, I will go on to work in tray setting, where the food trays are laid out with plates and cutlery and then packed in trolleys for the airplanes. I think it is wonderful that I have regular work hours. Right now I work from 06:00am – 02:00pm, but once I turn 18 I will also be able to work the late shift.
After my apprenticeship is finished, I hope to be taken on by LSG Sky Chefs. I would love to stay here, because I truly enjoy the friendly interaction between colleagues and the contact with other cultures. The practical work is fun and I enjoy the variety of working in different areas.
